WhatsApp has announced new features which will be rolling out slowly in the coming weeks. With Telegram giving more room for group chat up to 200,000 people, the need for WhatsApp to step up its game is worth the move. As against the 256 group chat limit, the Meta owned Instant Messaging and Voice-over-IP Service company, today announced in a new blog post that it will be making available the option to add more people to a chat, this time up to 512 people.
In its blog post, WhatsApp listed three key features which will be rolling out in the coming weeks on the app.
What WhatsApp is saying
“As we announced last month with our vision for Communities on WhatsApp, we’re now building for organizations, businesses, and other close-knit groups to communicate securely and get things done on WhatsApp. The feedback we’ve received so far has been very positive and we can’t wait to get many new features into people’s hands.
Group Participants increased to 512 people
As expected, WhatsApp announced that one of the top requests the company have consistently received is the option to add more people to a chat. So, it confirmed that it will slowly start rolling out the ability to add up to 512 people to a group.
“Building private, safe, and secure communities takes work and we think this series of improvements will help people and groups stay close to one another,” the blog post read.
2GB File sharing
Sharing heavy files on WhatsApp has never been easy over the years with the 100MB limit placed on file sharing. Well, that has changed as the WhatsApp announced that you can now send files within WhatsApp up to 2GB in size at a time, protected by end-to-end encryption.
“This is an increase from the previous limit of 100MB and we think will be helpful for collaboration among small businesses and school groups.”
The company however, recommended using WiFi for larger files stating that they will display a counter while uploading or downloading to let you know how long your transfer will take
Say hello to Reactions! Yeah, Reactions are fun, fast, and they reduce overload in groups too.
“We’re excited to share that emoji reactions are now available on the latest version of the app.”
WhatsApp also announced they will continue improving them by adding an even broader range of expressions in the future.
